Summer Reading Program
Reading is fundamental to the educational process, and Oak Ridge Christian Academy desires that all students seek to grow academically. Reading can be a fun activity for the entire family. It improves vocabulary, comprehension skills, and critical thinking skills. Research has proven that even children who have their parents read to them also improve their academic skills. During the summer break, all returning students will be required to read a certain number of books. The selections can be located at a public library in your area.

We believe summer reading will help reinforce the language skills the students are taught during the school year. Encourage your child to read daily to help develop a love for reading and knowledge. In Proverbs 16:16 God says, “It is better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver.”
Pre-kindergarten, Kindergarten, first and second grade students will list the books that are read on a Reading Log. The older students will complete creative assignments. The logs and assignments must be given to the teacher your child is assigned to for the upcoming year by the second day of school. On the reports, the students will be graded on completion and content, not on technique. Encourage your child to draw an illustration of something that they thought was very interesting in the book or help them in role playing the characters in a book. These skills are fun to children, and they improve comprehension.
